Reflection of Miss Evers' Boys
I have watched the movie that is Miss Evers' Boys. It is about in the 1932, the federal government had a secret medical experiment called the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the poor African -American Males, in Tuskegee, Alabama. This story is told from the point of view of Nurse Evers; she let us know Dr. Dougles and Dr. Brodus do the experiment on these men, and do not give them treatment before the experiment is finished. At last, many men died, only a few were alive by the experiment.
Base on the information in thus movie, some people think miss Evers is lying and deceit, because she involved many men who were her direct friends. however, she did not tell the truth to her friends about the experiment. These men still joined the experiment, and trusted the doctors could cure their disease. But, I do not think miss Evers is a fabulists. First, she did not tell the truth to these men who had syphilis, because she did not have another choice. When she joined this project, she just wanted to help people, and make them better. But, when she knew this project was different than before, it was too late for her to tell these men. Second, she could not tell these men the government wanted to have longer research, before the project was done. They still needed to endure disease, and they could not get the treatment. Finally, if she told the truth to people, she believed these men could not adopt the fact, they did not have the courage to face the life. And it was not helpful for these people to keep alive. So, I think miss Evers is not a deceiver, she just hoped the men can be happy in every day, and enjoy anything they want to do. She does not want they to be disappointed for their lives.
